Top European City Breaks
There are so many great cities in Europe, making it possible to enjoy city breaks in numerous different locations. You may well have your own favourites, but the following are some of the cities that we rate highest of all. As ever, you'll find that you can book many city breaks online at discount prices, with Alpha Rooms being a particularly popular provider.
Paris
Is Paris the most obvious place to start? Possibly! It's one of the most photographed and filmed cities on the planet. If you've never been then you have to pay a visit to see all of those famous buildings and monuments that make this city so memorable. But there's more to Paris that just great buildings and the Eiffel Tower. This is the city of culture, fashion, romance and cuisine. You can even get there by train from London!
Barcelona
If you've looked through some of our other articles then you'll know that Barcelona also features elsewhere. That's because it's a city that has so many different attractions, including wonderful buildings, sandy beaches and amazing, world class sporting venues. As with Paris, you'll find that Barcelona is perfect for everything from a weekend city break to a longer stay.
Prague
Once viewed as being off the beaten track, but now seen as being very much more mainstream. Stand on the Charles Bridge, gaze up to Prague Castle on the hill above and you'll soon see why people rave about this city. As beautiful as any in Europe, but prices have certainly been rising in recent years.
Amsterdam
A short hop from the UK to a place that is both famous and infamous with visitors from this country. Take a ride on the canals of Amsterdam and you're sure to want to return.
Venice
Talking of canals, could we possibly list the best city breaks in Europen without mentioning Venice? Of course not! Some might say that it gets too many tourists in the summer months and it may well do, but you can't escape from the fact that this is one of the most enchanting places in Europe.
Rome
Sticking with Italy, it's hard to avoid mentioning the capital city. A great place to visit, particularly for history buffs. As you walk around the city's streets, you feel like you know how the people of Rome felt at the height of the Roman Empire.
Budapest
As more and more people have been attracted to Prague, others have looked for a location with fewer tourists: Budapest is seen to fit the bill. There's something rather fantastic about visiting cities that were simply off limits not so many years ago.
Dublin
Want a great night out with live music and a friendly, warm atmosphere? We think that Dublin is just perfect. If you're looking for somewhere warm and dry then you might be wise to look elsewhere!
