San Gimignano Offers
The beautiful city of San Gimignano, with its famed medieval towers, is perched on top of a hill, surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Tuscany. As you stand on the edge of the city, looking down on the vineyards that are scattered all around, you can't help but wonder if there are many more beautiful spots than here.
It's a location that inevitably attracts tourists in large numbers, particularly during the summer months. It's interesting to note the coaches arriving during the mornings, bringing people in on day trips. The central square and the various alleys of San Gimignano tend to get packed as visitors mill around, popping into the small shops, sitting in the cafes or even sampling one of the world's finest ice creams.
It's not just the town itself that is a highlight. If you're staying here then you really have to see some of the nearby highlights, including Volterra, Siena, Pisa and Florence. That's without mentioning the famed wines from the Chianti region.

If you do want to stay in or around San Gimignano then there are a number of options to choose from. It is worth trying to stay here if you can because the city has a completely different feel at night, when many of the day trippers have departed. Enjoy seeing the buildings lit up - everything looks that bit different and, if anything, the towers look even more spectacular when seen in the early evening.
You may well want to stay here but be concerned about the cost of doing so. While there are hotels in the centre of town and on the outskirts, another option is to stay in a villa or cottage. There are a number of self catering places that offer excellent value for money - some have splendid settings.
